Project description
To determine the effect of selected Renosterveld and lowland fynbos species on the performance of micro-sprinkler irrigated grapevines established on a sandy and medium textured soil, as well as non-irrigated grapevines established on a medium textured soil. To determine the effect of the selected cover crops on the occurrence of nematodes and soil-borne grapevine diseases on the irrigated sandy and irrigated medium textured soil, respectively. To determine the effect of the selected cover crops on the soil nutrient status and organic matter content of the irrigated sandy and medium textured soils. To determine the performance and weed control ability of the cover crops. To determine the effect of the renosterveld and lowland fynbos species on natural enemies as well as the pest status of the grapevines To supply the winegrape industry with scientifically based guidelines for sustainable cover crop management with Renosterveld and lowland fynbos species
