Project description
It is important to have reliable detection techniques that would detect all GLRaV-3 genetic variants present in our vineyards and to establish reference plants for each variant.
Most research on grapevine leafroll disease has been conducted on red wine cultivars, while genetic variation of GLRaV-3 in white cultivars remains largely unknown. This project will address this lack of information by determining the genetic diversity of GLRaV-3 in a widespread survey on white and red cultivars. The prevalence of the newly identified strain of GLRaV-3 (SANZ) will be determined in the same survey. The ability of existing industry standard diagnostic ELISA tests to detect all genetic variants will also be evaluated.
