Project description
It is important for the South African wine industry to gain a better understanding of emerging consumer’s perceptions of different products and wine quality in general. Wine descriptions are mostly done by wine experts, resulting in a communication gap between the wine producer and consumer. This problem can be bridged by consumer based sensory evaluation of wine products. The first stage of this proposal investigates the black consumer.

Objectives:
1. Identify South African wine consumer’s (black and white) perceptions of wine quality
2. Capture black consumer’s wine sensory descriptors
3. Other wine consumers e.g. other African or Asian markets, to be planned after completion of stage 1 (black South African consumers), in consultation with Winetech
