Project description
Worldwide uncertainty still exists regarding the role of fungi in decline and slow dieback of young grapevines. The black goo disease complex was the first to be associated with this. Recently the involvement a fungus, Cylindrocarpon, which causes black-foot disease, was discovered. The aim of this study is to identify different Cylindrocarpon isolates to species level and to determine their involvement in black foot disease.
150 local Cylindrocarpon isolates were collected. six C. destructans isolates were obtained from France and one from Tasmania, while a further 34°C. obtusisporum isolates were obtained from California. 28 isolates were selected for preliminary molecular characterisation.
