Project description
In recent years significant progress has been made in South Africa in understanding the spread of grapevine leafroll associated virus type 3, the major local etiological agent of leafroll disease. This has allowed a number of control strategies to be proposed. These have been evaluated in a commercial setting and shown to dramatically reduce the number of leafroll infected vines. Such information is of limited value unless it is widely publicized. The aim of this project is to keep up to date with the latest information on leafroll control and to disseminate this and previously generated information on leafroll control to grape growers of the South African wine industry. Information will be disseminated in a variety of ways both oral and written as well as with one-on-one consultations.
