Determining the effect of ion ratios in saline soils on ion accumulation in the grapevine

Project Number
WW 04-13

Project title
Determining the effect of ion ratios in saline soils on ion accumulation in the grapevine

Project leader
Myburgh, P A

Team members
De Villiers, L

Project description
The aim of this project is to relate ion ratios in the root zone to ion composition in the
plant, as well as to general grapevine performance. During the report year selection of suitable sites based on chemical analyses was completed. After that, soil and plant samples were taken at these sites. Productions as well as sugar, acids and pH of the musts were measured at all sites. Meaningful conclusions and recommendations will only be possible on completion of the analyses in the coming report year and grapevine response is correlated to ion ratios in the soil. The project should continue as planned.
