Project description
Irrigation areas, particularly those in semi-arid areas, are becomingly increasingly saline. Sodium and chloride are two particularly problematic ions. The aim of this project is to determine how the ion balances in the soils influences cation and anion content of the vines. Sixty six sites in Colombar and Sultana vineyards have been identified during May 2004 for sampling. The sites represent the area from Grootdrink to Marchand. Soils will be sampled in October 2004 and leaves, roots, shoots and must will be sampled at harvest in the current growing season. Cane mass will be measured next year at pruning to quantify growth over the current growing period.
